My Life Experiences
That Taught Me To Teach...

The above photos were from the Senior Highs Mission Trip to Columbia Falls, Montana, in 2003. In this project, two wheel chair ramps were built for a teenager who suffered brain injuries from shaken baby syndrome, at the age of six months, that caused her to have limited mobility and eyesight. She is a miraculous young lady!
For the past ten years, I have learned through my experiences how unique each individual is, and how much they have to offer. I have been fortunate to work with wonderful Junior and Senior High students, who, through their challenges, have taught me how to look at the world through new eyes, everyday.
They have taught me what it means to care, as well as to be patient. Through their energy, caring, and enthusiasm, we have helped many people in their times of need. We have worked in food banks and helped to house the homeless, and adopted shut ins.
My greatest experiences have been helping the youth grow, develop, challenge others, and find ways to accomplish what they feel is important enough to work for; such as their mission projects.
I have worked beside the young people on projects, and accompanied them across the country on various Mission Projects. One groups went to Fairbanks, Alaska, to refinish cabins for underprivileged children. Other groups have gone to Vermont, Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina and Montana, to build wheel chair ramps, paint houses, and repair roofs for the elderly, disabled and poverty stricken families.
The youth have been exposed to areas of the country, that are not listed in the tour guides. We have all experienced both cultural and economic differences that exists throughout our country.
I have gained the skills needed to assist students to work together to meet their goals, and to overcome the obstacles that come up in the lives of youth. However, the group as a whole carries with them the knowledge that it is important to make a difference in one person's life, no matter how insignificant it may seem. It is important for the entire person to grow, as well as the entire community.
As a teacher, I strive to help each student find their own strengths and individual talents, and to use it for the good of the community.

I have learned
A butterfly, is just a change in life that has evolved from the ordinary, to the extraordinary.
